Set up AMP on WordPress Site

Why should you set up Amp on WordPress Site?
The web is growing and growing and improving page loading speed and page size has become challenge of the new millennium. As more than half of Google searches are made via hand held devices therefore optimizing your website for mobile will be a plus point both in terms of SEO and Speed. Google has clearly said that it will give preference to fast loading page if two pages equate in other metrics. Google is more concerned about user experience than individually blog owners. That’s why it has introduced Google Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP).
What is Google AMP?
AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages. This is an initiative launched by Google for best browsing experience of hand held mobile users. In AMP, a different set of CSS and Java Script is loaded which is personalized for mobile devices. AMP also put restriction on the format and syntax of CSS and JS and one cannot use CSS or JS other than recommended by AMP design. The Web page which does not follow these restrictions will not be considered for AMP features. You might have seen the AMP symbol in Google Search. Look at the following figure which shows an amp page. Note that this symbol appears when you search on Mobile Device. This will not appear if you search on desktop PC.
How to Set up AMP on WordPress Website?
There are many Plugins in WordPress which you can use for this purpose. The most widely used plugin is AMP for WP. Following is step by step procedure of how to set up AMP on WordPress?
- Go to Plugin>Add New Plugin
- Type AMP for WP to search in WordPress Plugin repository
- Click on install now and then activate it. Click here if you don’t know how to install a plugin in WordPress.
A new icon for AMP will appear on your WordPress Dashboard. It includes the design, setting and layout etc of AMP pages.
AMP for WP Setting and select General. It includes the following options
Logo: here you can upload logo for the AMP page. It also includes the resize option in case you want to resize the uploaded image.
AMP Support: You can check the posts, pages, Home page, Custom Post page etc where you want the AMP support to be enabled. It includes an option “AMP takeover (Beta). If you enable this option, all of your site will be rendered as AMP. It means your website will be having one and only one version, the AMP version.
Also check other options such as Page Builder, Advertisement (here we can put different ads, adsense for example), SEO (we select the plugin used on blog for SEO), analytic property can also be integrated with amp. We can also enable push notification for AMP pages. For Example if you are using one signal Push notification, you just need to mention it here and copy the App id in the box provided over here.
